Yunnan is one of China’s most culturally and naturally diverse provinces – home to tropical jungles and snow-capped peaks as well as 25 of China’s ethnic minority groups.
ASIA2220: Chinese Language Trainng and Rural China Field Study is a three-week intensive program that consists of two parts. The first part is a two-week intensive spoken Chinese-language program designed for beginners and intermediate students.
The second part will begin in a one-week study tour in China's Yunnan Province that will introduce you to multi-ethnic rural China. You will meet with farmers, business people, and local policy makers to learn about development challenges in China’s countryside, including questions related to food security, agricultural modernisation, and environmental protection.
Guided by ANU experts, the tour will take you across the foothills of the Himalayas. You will visit Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge, Haba, and Shangrila, Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, and experience a village homestay.
The program will be open to students with no prior training in Chinese language or Chinese affairs.
